The tourist activity in Huatulco, from the beginning has been focused on sustainability. The Huatulco Development Master Plan, prepared by Fonatur, limits tourism development to 35%, while 65% of the area is an ecological reserve.
The destination proudly has the EarthCheckPlatinum certificate since 2015, being the second destination worldwide to receive it and the first in the American Continent as a Sustainable Tourism Community.
It has also been recognized with the “S” Distinction for its sustainable development programs, which improve its competitiveness without diminishing the high quality of its services. For their part, the Chahué and Tangolunda-Dreams beaches have the international Blue Flag certification, for achieving the category of excellence in management, management and environmental education, water quality, safety and services, contemplating inclusive aspects for people with disabilities.
